Carmen Inés Blondet 

 

Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Blondet is best known for her sculptures in public places. She has a Masters in Arts from New York University and a BA from the University of Puerto Rico.

In her contemporary approach to steel construction there is energy and continuous movement in the dialogue with space. She welds, cuts and molds steel to produce her large scale pieces.

Blondet has shown her work at many solo exhibitions in Puerto Rico and has participated in collective shows in Puerto Rico, Italy, France, the Dominican Republic, Brazil and the United States. Blondet’s work is part of important public and private art collections.

Some of her public art projects include: Transparencia, at the Courts’ Administration Building in San Juan; Serrasuela, Luis Muñoz Marín Foundation, Trujillo Alto; Crecimiento, Paseo de la Princesa in Old San Juan; Danza de Fuego in Santurce; Puerta para Soñar, UPR, Mayaguez,; Origen y Tiempo, UPR, Humacao; Descubriendo el Fuego, Puerto Rico Art Museum, Santurce; Crecimiento en Brasil, Sao Paulo, Brazil.

She has received numerous awards and recognitions for her work, which include commissions for a permanent sculpture for Puerto Rico’s Pavilion at the Expo’92 in Seville, Spain; and a sculpture at El Yunque National Forest Visitors’ Center in Río Grande, Puerto Rico, among others. She has also participated at the Sao Paolo Biennial in Brazil and at several sculpture symposiums in Puerto Rico.

Blondet has taught at the Fine Arts School of Puerto Rico, the University of Puerto Rico, and the University of Sacred Heart in San Juan. She has been invited as artist in residence at Rutgers University in New Jersey and at the Ateliers de la Caraibe in Martinique
